  1. Conditions for qualification MCR of EN4269-050 nuts under ISO5858 technical specification:
    • Product standard EN4269 seems to be cancelled at AFNOR. prEN4269 has been used to review this qualification. An action to ASD-STAN D3 WG2 should be made in order to re activate EN4269 standard.
    • Vibration test was not performed with the 2 new sources of surface coating, please provide ASD-CERT with evidence why that this test is not applicable or the new sources has no impact for this test.
    • Please provide ASD-CERT with a photo of marking on the finished product.
    • Protec Bezons, which was used for Cadmium plating on 26 of April 2021 (Date on the Certificate of Conformity), was on fire on 13 of May 2021. Please provide evidence to ASD-CERT that manufactured EN4269-050 parts were protected or were not any more in Protec Bezons plant during this fire.
    • Please provide ASD-CERT with hardness values for the manufactured parts.

  2. Dear Philippe,
Please find below the feedback concerning the opened conditions.

1- Product standard EN4269 seems to be cancelled at AFNOR. prEN4269 has been used to review this qualification. An action to ASD-STAN D3 WG2 should be made in order to re activate EN4269 standard.
=> On the Airbus side EN4269 is still applicable and valid.
No obsolescence is identified on the AH / Design side.

2- Vibration test was not performed with the 2 new sources of surface coating, please provide ASD-CERT with evidence why that this test is not applicable or the new sources has no impact for this test.
=> Vibration tests are only necessary in case of Qualification and not in case of “acceptance” or MCR, according to ISO5858. The change of surface treatment suppliers has low impact on the vibration performance of the parts (same surface treatment parameters).
Since the fire at the Howmet St-Cosme surface treatment unit, in order to deal with the many MCR concerning the impact of surface treatment suppliers, the MCR treatment process has been lightened.

3- Please provide ASD-CERT with a photo of marking on the finished product.
=> To be provided by Howmet St-Cosme
Furthermore, I was last week on St-Cosme plant to manage the qualification of EN4269-060 nut, the marking was well compliant.
In addition, since the fire at the Howmet St-Cosme surface treatment unit, in order to deal with the many MCR concerning the impact of surface treatment suppliers, the MCR treatment process has been lightened.

4- Protec Bezons, which was used for Cadmium plating on 26 of April 2021 (Date on the Certificate of Conformity), was on fire on 13 of May 2021. Please provide evidence to ASD-CERT that manufactured EN4269-050 parts were protected or were not any more in Protec Bezons plant during this fire.
=> The Protec CoC is dated 26/04/21, while the fire took place on 13/05/21. This Protec CoC is proof that the nuts were treated before the fire. The CoCs are issued at the time of delivery of the parts ±1 day.
5- Please provide ASD-CERT with hardness values for the manufactured parts.
=> The hardness test is indeed required in case of “acceptance”, according to ISO5858,
But, in addition, since the fire at the Howmet St-Cosme surface treatment unit, in order to deal with the many MCR concerning the impact of surface treatment suppliers, the MCR treatment process has been lightened and hardness is not requested: for example see MCR n°1194 – EN4269-060.

Thank you in advance for your treatment,
    S.Garcia
