  1. Cadmium plating:
These bolts were manufactured in 2008. Therefore, NF EN2133:1998 was the applicable issue at that time for cadmium plating process.
These bolts are made out of steel with 1100 MPa UTS.
Thus, a stress relief operation before cadmium plating shall be carried out at 190-230°C for 1 hour minimum.
After cadmium plating, a baking operation at 190-230°C for 8 hours minimum shall be done.
In QTR, de-embrittlement after cadmium plating is mentioned in page 11 and states that de-embrittlement has been carried out for 8 hours at 190-230°C and refers to appendix 3. Unfortunately, plating CoC does not show that the de-embrittlement operation has been carried out.
Shall we have this information from plating supplier?
In addition, where can we find data about stress relief before cadmium plating?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Best regards, Julien

    1. Following conversation below, approved from my side.
Many thanks again to you Mr. Vermesse and Phil.
      Best regards.

      “M. Gauther,

Concerning this specific sentence, it is not apply because the machining on shank and head are also performed after heat treatment. Internally we consider those operations as “cold working”.
So we do not use this exception.

      Dear Mr. Vermesse,
      Thanks for this explanation.

At that time, AMS-QQ-P-416 issue 2004 states that: “Stress relief is not required for fasteners if all cold working is limited to cold working of the head-to-shank fillet and thread rolling after heat treatment”.

This is still the case now.

This why I would like to make sure that, even if we have this sentence above, AMS-QQ-P-416, table 1 was still taken into account.

      Many thanks again,

      Best regards,

  4. Thank you Phil and AHG team for this detailed answer.
Unfortunately, I cannot find any stress relief operation (1 hour at 190-239 degrees) before cadmium plating in cadmium plating process procedure.
    Could you please enlighten me?
    Thanks again.
    Regards,
    Julien
