  1. Raw material: in QTR, it is mentioned that raw material is in line with EN2399 and EN3639, but chemistry only. However, in raw material certificate, we do not have this statement from CARPENTER.
Moreover, EN2399 standard requires some tests, such as:
    – FPI for external defects (see line 44, EN4700-2, test method as per EN2002-16),
    – Micro cleanliness (see line 50, EN4700-2, test method as per EN2951, class 4),
    – Internal defects check by ultrasonic inspection (see line 61, EN4700-2, test method as per EN4050-1 to -4, class 3 as per EN4050-4).
    Could you please clarify?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Best regards.

  2. Raw material used is A286 per AMS5731. It has the same chemistry of EN2399 / EN3639 called by dwg (see also cross reference listed on TR3791). I don’t think that there is any raw material manufacturer approved for EN2399 / EN3639, so they are used to certify only the chemistry conformity to EN spec. New raw material batches will report the conformity to EN specs also.
    Available for further information.

  3. Dear Piero,,

    Thank you for your feedback.
Even if EN2909 does not call out TR3791 for raw materials, other EN standards for similar parts specify this TR.
The only drawback, from my point of view, is that a high proportion of AMS standards do not require any NDT, which might be detrimental to manufacturers in the case of the presence of internal defects during forging operations for instance.
Anyway, I agree with your answer and this qualification is now approved.

    Have a nice evening,
    Best regards,
    Julien
