Understand the Compression set test per EN3050 was done to ISO815, but spec calls out D1414. Can we have some comment on equivalence of method?
Also packaging requirement per EN3050, some requirements on example shown are not covered. Do you have a EN3049 example?
Thank you for your comments Jon. I will get a response from Trelleborg on the equivalence of ISO815 v D1414. For the packaging, I raised this issue during my visit as the final compliant packaging is carried out by the Trelleborg dispatch facility in France. Tewkesbury simply places them in bulk into a clear plastic bag. I will ask Trelleborg for details and a photo of the final packaged part.
Trelleborg replied that IS0815 and D1414 are equivalent in terms of test methods e.g. number of test pieces, conditioning of test pieces and temperature tolerances for testing. They are both tested to compression of 25% of the original thickness of the test piece. The one difference is that ISO 815-1 only mentions cylindrical discs as standard test pieces while ASTM D1414 is written specifically for O rings. So Jonathan is correct in spotting ISO815 should be used for EN2798 and ASTM D1414 for EN3050. The PQ176 report has been revised to refer to ASTM D1414 as required by EN3050.
Regarding packaging of items, Trelleborg have now provided their packaging specification that is linked to all parts sold as EN3049. This packaging shows the type of label and content attached, and this is applied to individual part bag prior to release from TSS.
